Hair Growth Supplements & Acne

If you suffer from acne, you may want to rethink taking biotin supplements for hair growth and stronger nails. High levels of biotin is know to cause cystic acne breakouts, even in people who are not typically prone to acne. Most hair growth supplements on the market today contain high levels of biotin ranging from 2,500 to 5,000 mcg which, would more than likely be a disaster for acne prone skin. The breakouts caused by biotin supplements typically occur around the chin and jaw line but can happen anywhere on the face, chest and or back.

Acne is a condition in which dead skin cells do not slough off effectivelly causing the pores to become clogged. Biotin hair supplements promote the bonding of keratin cells which are the cells that form hair, skin, and nails. When the pores get a build up of dead skin cells, excess oil and acne bacteria they become inflammed and an acne cyst forms.

The good thing is new breakouts tend to stop within days of discontiuing biotin supplements. The bad news is even once the new breakouts have stopped, current acne cyst may take weeks to totally heal and clear. If you decide you still want to try biotin supplements for hair and nail growth try to find ones with the lowest dose of biotin possible and drink 10 to 12 glasses a water a day to help prevent acne breakouts.

Exfoliating Facials

Exfoliating facials and treatments improve your skins overall health, texture and clarity. Keeping the skin exfoliated properly will also allow you to get more benefits from your skin care regimen. When dead skin cells build up on the surface of the skin, the results are a tired dull looking complexion. And if your prone to acne, more breakouts. Until the excess layers of dead skin are removed, your skin care products will not be able to penetrate effectively. So you probably won't experience the overall benefits you were hoping to get from your skin care routine.

In addition to acne breakouts and a tired dull looking complexion, skin that isn't exfoliated on a regular bases may give the appearance of more and or deeper wrinkles than are actually present in the newer healthy layers of skin causing a premature aged look. Most dark spots can also be lightened if not completely removed when the skin is exfoliated properly. Proper exfoliation for your skin type is your first step to radiant healthy skin.

What Are Chemical Peels Anyway?

Chemical peels are one of the most popular forms of exfoliation in skin care because of their ability to address multiple issues during the same treatment. Chemical peels can fade dark spots, even out skin tone , smooth lines, rejuvenate aging skin, minimize enlarged pores, improve acne, and promote healthier skin. The two most common chemical peels are glycolic peels and lactic peels.

Glycolic peels and lactic chemical peels are both alpha hydroxy acids that are found naturally in foods. Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and lactic acid comes from sour milk. If your complexion looks dry and dull regardless of the products you are using in your home skin care regime it's probably time to freshen up with a light chemical peel.

Is One Of Your Favorite Foods Causing Your Acne?

If you are like most Americans you probably love chesse on everything, I know I do! But, did you know that dairy products can aggravate acne and cause more breakouts? Dairy products such as cheese contain high levels of natural hormones from cows milk in addition to lactose which, is a sugar found in milk that can also make acne worse. As if the cows natural hormones weren't enough, many times extra hormones also are injected into cows if they are not raised on an organic dairy farm. Doctor Mark Hyman shared that there are over 60 hormones per glass of raw organic milk. Dairy products, such as cheese, are known to be one of the most inflammatory foods you can eat. Any food that increases inflammation in your body is more than likely to contribute to acne breakouts.

Could Talking On Your Cell Phone Be Making Your Acne Worse?

If you suffer from acne, talking on your cell phone could be increasing the severity and the number of breakouts you are getting. You may be asking yourself "What does talking on my cell phone have to do with acne ?" But in this day and age, we take our cell phones with us everywhere we go and often sit them down in places that are full of bacteria. Studies have shown that the typical cell phone has 10 times more bacteria than a toliet seat. Uhm GROSS!!! Actually this is not surpising when you think about it. Most people clean and disinfect their bathrooms multiple times a month, but never think to wipe their cell phone off with a disinfectant.

When you combine the dirt and oil that is already on the surface of your skin, with the moist heat that gets generated from holding your cell phone to your face, in addition to all of the  bacteria on your phone, voilá you have just created the perfect storm for an acne breakout. Even worse than a bad acne breakout is the risk of a serious staph infection or any other type of bacterial infection caused by the germs and bacteria on your cell phone entering pimples that are already open.

It is so important to clean your phone on a regular basis and preferably at least once a day if you suffer from acne to prevent future breakouts. Just out of curiosity, how often do you clean your cell phone off with disinfectant?

Why You Get That Dry Tight Feeling After You Wash Your Face.

Posted on June 25, 2015 at 9:45 PM Comments comments (0)

Do you ever have that dry tight feeling after you have washed your face? Your skin has a set pH balance and when you wash your faces that balance gets disrupted and becomes alkaline (hence the dry tight feeling). Astringent/Toners neutralize the pH balance and restore your skins protective acid mantel, taking away the overly stripped feeling.
